Today (2074/08/16), a talk programme on "Motivation for Change" was held in Himalaya College of Engineering. The key speaker of the programme was Mr. Sugat Ratna Kansakar, M.D. of Nepal Airlines Corporation. Final year students, faculty and staffs were present in the programme. The key points on the programme are as follows:
- Make use of three birth-gifts: a) Freedom & power to choose. B) Natural Laws & principles e.g.- fairness, kindness, integrity, service, moral authority & c) Intelligence / capacity to learn – body, mind, heart & spirit.
- Improve all four faculties of life – PQ (Physical Quotient), IQ (Intelligence Quotient), EQ (Emotional Quotient) and SQ (Spiritual Quotient).
- Be proactive. Proactive people don't blame circumstances. Active people lives longer. Activities will result in better brain.
- Leadership vs. management – leadership is considered as art of accomplishing more than science of management says, so try to develop leadership abilities in addition to management, study, and other matters.
- You are always a part of a whole, you cannot work in isolation, hence behavior, habits, and attitude matters much. "When we change our thinking, we change our lives."
- Successful persons in any profession ooze out positive energy & optimism. Never say "it happens only in Nepal", "only at my home, things are happening like this" . Try to avoid 7 negative emotions – jealousy, fear, hatred, revenge, greed, superstition & anger.
- Happiness at study or work is a must. You must have passion in what you are doing. Three ways to increase happiness level - a) getting more pleasure out of life, b) becoming more engaged in what you do, & c) finding ways of making your life feel more important . To work on later two components, two factors are important - pro-activity & principle-centered living.
- One cannot have two characters. So, improving behavior / habits / attitude in study or work place will have direct impact in family / personal life.
- You should be aware of difference between discipline & sycophancy; and between lobbying / marketing & CHAKARI.
- Urgent works vs. important works.
- Avoid ego. Pride is OK.
- Try to make everyday not only a good day but a great day, and it is never too late to try.
